Default PCCB pad thickness

Long story, but I'll just get to the point.
i'm re-installing PCCBs and removing iron rotors since no track days planned.
original take-off pads seem very "thin".
as in, the pad thickness is only 20% thicker than the backing plate.

is this too thin or is this the way the ceramic rotor pads are designed?
I'm more familiar with iron rotor pads and would expect to see more pad thickness

if these were iron rotor pads, I probably would not bother re-installing and would buy new.

photo is a bit deceiving, pad is only 20% thicker than backing plate

thanks

My understanding is that pccb pads must be changed when around 50% of original thickness. In other words, much earlier than when you would typically change a conventional pad. Mine are not as worn as yours but I'm thinking about doing it as well. Mine squeal a bit so I wonder if it may be due to the pads. My rotors are in great shape still.

Is the 50% rule based on tracked cars rather than street only?

No idea...I'm not even sure its a "rule." Rather, just something I have heard but I have not confirmed its accuracy.

Would be interesting to know what the original thickness is?

I think pad material is ~10mm when new

No problem. I checked my notes and I have 10.77mm front and 10.95mm rear. FYI I have a Turbo so don't know if it would be different.

The front pad is what we refer to as the 2707 shape. New thickness is 18mm including the backing plate.

I'd be interested in your LONG STORY

I've got a long story too.
.

But in short, I've found that that 2nd generation of PCCB sucks for hard track use, but is great for street use. i.e. Don't use those pads on the track, but they are fine for the street. (when I say "street", I mean "as hard as you dare drive in the mountains")
