Default 236,000 Miles Between Them

While towing to the track this weekend the Douche Canoe (Cayenne) hit 118K miles. The 996 also has 118K miles.

Now I'm just going to drive each one 10 miles at a time some they always have the same mileage.

Of course the track car rewarded me with a blown AOS (which only has 1600 miles on it) and continued low oil pressure in the turns after 10 minutes of driving.

1600 miles to an AOS doesn't sound good, what do you think is causing that. Also, congrats!

You should tow the 911 100 miles, then switch and tow the Cayenne with the 911 for 100 more.

You should polish those headlights on the cayenne.

I think driving it on the track is what the AOS does not like. Lots of the cars at the track have a puff of smoke at start-up. Most of them just keep going.

Since I'm still gun shy from blowing the motor in October, I'm not willing to take the chance of continuing to track it with a bad AOS.

Sadly, I have done it twice. I think they are too far gone.

I've done lots of track events in many different 996 Carreras. Some had puff of smoke, some didn't. I wouldn't conclude that's the AOS off hand, though please do keep us updated as to what's going on!

If you fill oil to the top bar the AOS has to work extra hard on the track. Maybe try running it ~2 bars low to give the AOS a bit of a break?

It wasn't just a puff on smoke, it was a puff of smoke that did not clear up for 5 minutes (more throttle increased the smoke) it did eventually clear up.

I pulled the throttle body and plenum, and there was a good amount of oil there. So I am fairly confident it is the AOS.

At the max, it was 2 bars below full. I started the day between the low mark and middle. Or are you saying I should run it 2 bars below the low mark?

my car hasn't smoked 1 bit the last 2 track days I've done. 1st track day I ran the oIL at the half way mark. 2nd track day I ran it 2 bars down from the top.

5 minutes of continued smoke is excessive and I would suspect a bad aos....even when I had scored cylinders the car would stop smoking after 20 seconds or so.
