Talking Favorite roads! Where are they!

Enough of all of this PCAR complaining.....we all know the BEST thing is to get out and drive these wunderkars....

Where are your favorite roads, journeys and experiences???

Lets brighten up this board just a bit

I've found some of the best roads in CALIFORNIA here:

www.pashnit.com

Marin County and Sonoma county have some of the best scenery and roads!!!

One of my favorites....:

Default One of the best roads on the other side of US....

is down near the Tennessee and North Carolina border. Try this URL:

www.tailofthedragon.com

It has 318 curves in a 11 mile stretch on US 129. My wife and I drove it this summer and it is absolutely fantastic!! I definitely recommend it.

Also, the Blue Ridge Parkway is tough to beat as well.

Yep ....heard all about that route...I've even watched a online video clip of some sportbikers that have made that road into quite an adventure....isnt there a tree covered with "broken" bike parts and other memorabilia?

i love driving around my parent's house in upstate NY. it's farm country with lots of back roads that are in good shape with no cops around anywhere! that can also get you in trouble though as i found out recently. beware of blind hills!!!!

Goldendale down to the Columbia river via Mt Adams.
North Cascades Hwy during the fall.
Longview to Cannon Beach over the Mountains.
Going to the Sun Hwy through Glacier Park.
Browning MT direct to Great Falls in the early evening just at sunset.

It's 99 from Howe Sound (North Vancouver) to Whistler. It will be redone for the 2010 olympics. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

Don't remember seeing any items on any trees (way too busy to look) but there is a gas station at the end of the run on the NC side that has quite a few pictures of various "incidents" on US129. Lots of road rash for the bikers, a few cars stuck underneath some 18 wheelers that were stupid enough to take this route. It's impossible for something that large to negoiate those curves safely. Check out some of the pictures on the URL.

Great topic.

I have to agree with russbert. The roads here in Western North Carolina are a hoot to drive. I've only been living here for about three months so I haven't gotten a chance to try many, but one that I especially enjoy is N.C. Highway 221 from Pineola to Blowing Rock. This road parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway but has probably 4 times as many curves with many switchbacks. Deals Gap and the roads around there are on my list for next spring.

California 1 (PCH) almost anyplace from Santa Monica north to whenever you get tired. US 395 from San Diego north, in particular north of Bishop. California 49 (Gold Country).
