As someone who might have a few 1/4 mile passes under his belt, don't dismiss skill and practice so quickly. Driving skill, getting to know a car better, and experience bet you a lot of time reduction. With enough runs under your belt you will find published times conservative in many cases.

Glad you got out to have some fun and enjoy a little speed. Better than most people manage with their sports cars.

If the conditions were bad, go here http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...calculator.php and you can correct for DA, which makes a huge difference.

A stock 996 will easily go low-mid 13s @105 without any fancy tires, cheater-conditions, abuse, or etc. The more you do it, the better you'll get!

That's awesome! Great story and fun post. Best part of owning my car so far was the Drive home with my son from California. Fantastic memories.
