porsche 996, 2003 turbo. 35,000 miles . I have had this car 1 year. As my driving has become more aggressive, I find 3rd gear difficult to nearly impossible to engage. I have changed the gear lube, and modified my shift habits. The only way for a sure shift is to go SLOW.I have read about aftermarket cables as a fix. Any advice/comments ?
Sagging engine mounts? Sagging transmission mount?
Buy the Porsche factory gearshift adjustment widget ($12) and get the cables set right.
I had the same issues in my 20K original mile 2003 996 and addressing the above made a huge improvement.
My shifting is a little notchy too, and the engine mounts are definitely sagging. I am ordering a new set this week. Is the transmission mount typically shot along with the motor mounts, or do they have a longer life?

The trans mount is pressed into the transmission case, so aside from removing the transmission to press it out your best bet is to add a FunctionFirst transmission mount insert. I was surprised about how sagged mine was when installing the insert.
I replaced my engine mounts w/ the Function First v2 mounts, then drove a bit and noted somewhat improved shifting. Then I installed the transmission mount insert (orange/soft version in my case) and the shifting was remarkably improved. So from that I would conclude the transmission mount sagging affects shifting more than the engine mount sagging does. YMMV.
I have some sagging tailpipes and went with a semi solid mounts. I want to also change my trans mount bushings. I have torque solutions engine mount. I have the tip trans. What trans bushings would you recommend

I can say I've also experienced this on a blue moon or two. But it's been so random and rare that I've forgotten about it shortly after. Does it almost feel like there is just something blocking third gear? That's the sort of feeling I recall when I think about it. Almost like some rubbery little wall has inserted itself between the stick and where third gear should be. Again it's happened only a few times. But if you figure out exactly what it is I would certainly like to know!
It's definitely not something I'm familiar with - many of my 2-3 shifts are at or near redline, since that's perfect merging speed for the California autobahn system.
