Thanks to Chris for winning the Dumb A$$ prize and Tdream1 I was able to solve a real problem with my 911 - rear windows not coming back up. As Tdram1 had suggested, I made sure that the top was latched, but using the rear window switches still did not work. So I stuck my finger in the hole where the latch lands and felt the switch. Kept pressing that switch, even with the top down I was able to bring the rear windows up . There is apiece of rubber at the end of the latch which looks like it has lost its rigidness and is the reason for not pressing the switch far enough.

I have a wooden skewer I cut in half for just such occasions...feels safer than sticking my finger in there.
