Your M96-01 engine number is lower than mine. I believe my car has the original engine (M96/0166W15345), built 3/98.
Your car may have left the factory with a single row (2001 came both ways) which failed early. They found an engine out of a 99 and installed it. Very possible.

Above is number on engine (1999- 996 cab ) Can someone tell me when it was made ? door was repainted and birth date removed . JZ
