Default Build date on a 996

I found a 1999 996 with 114k miles 6 speed. All stock, Runs good, pull strong.

Shocks are gone. Makes sounds at very low speed. Like when you are coming to a complete stop at a stop sign and when you start moving from the stop sign. ( how much for a complete replacement for 4 shocks and what brand? I can hear the shock noise when I pushed the trunk down

First gear seems noisy. PO is aware of it but do not care, car has been in DE Event less than 6 times

Could not find the build sheet sticker on any of the doors or door frame
Why should I look for the build date
PO have no idea about the build date
Thanks

Could you also derive a build month from the VIN? All I have is this which gives you a Model Year.

What about this one, anyone know any information about this vin
Is this engine a match to my vin information?

The sticker will be on the driver's door ...kind of low. Maybe your door was repainted or replaced?

My understanding is that there's no direct correlation between engine # and vin#. The engines were built separately, put in "stock" and then pulled in no particular order to be put in a chassis (at least that's how it was done at the time). There was a metal tag put inside the drivers side door jam at the factory with the build date - if it's not there, it was removed.

HotRod

For VIN look at the link posted earlier:

Your engine was made in 1999. Which is a good thing...probably dual row IMS bearing

I've heard of newer engines in older chassis but not the other way around! Perhaps the original '01 motor blew and a PO replaced it with this '99.
