Default IMS in Portland

I did a search and can't find much recently: what are people paying for an IMS procedure in the PNW? I'm in Portland, totally fine traveling up to Seattle if needed.

I've received some quotes, they are all over the place.

Would love to know what people paid and where, and if they were happy with the repair before I book it.

Car is running great, but I can't get the fear out of my head on my 2001 Carrera.

Looks like Marque Motors in Portland and Chris's German Auto Service in Bellevue are both certified for the IMS Solution; that should be roughly $5k. I thought it was worth the peace of mind to never need to worry about the IMS again.

Just curious where you got that price? That's significantly more than all but one quote I've received, the only quote that was more than $5k involved the option of new clutch, flywheel, RMS, and a few other things.

I've seen people posting prices from $1600-3000 but no one too close.

Were you looking at quotes for replacing the IMS bearing, or getting the IMS Solution? The former needs to be redone every ~30k miles, the latter is good for the life of the engine.

The Solution involves a ~$1600 part, pre- and post-inspection, dropping the engine, and doing some machining work on the engine. Most of the installers do include the clutch/flywheel at no labor charge.

Sorry, just the bearing not the entire solution. I only drive my car about 2000 mi per year (I only clock about 5000 mi per year in total), so a 30k mi solution will last me a LONG time.

Chris's in Redmond did my Boxster and I would recommend them to anyone. He will give you an accurate, extensive worst case bid ahead of time and include things like the flywheel which is usually needed.

I had my IMSB done by Chris's German Auto Service in Bellevue, WA (425 462-9296) because they are a certified LN installer and highly regarded in our area. They did an AOS, RMS and magnetic drain plug while they were in there. The old IMSB was fine but at least I don't need to think about it for a long time. The car had 24000 miles on it at the time and the clutch was also fine. The job cost me $2628 with tax in late 2014.
