Default Yes, another "what's that noise" post

I need help from the 996 guru's on the board
I have a persistent chirping noise that is making me nuts
2003 996

The chirping only happens when the motor is cold, or has sat for 30 min and cooled some. As soon as the motor is warmed up the chirp goes away

It seems to make the noise at idle, and when decelerating from 2K rpm down to idle, and changes pace with the rpm's

I also removed the belt to see if was an accessory that was making the noise, but it was still there with the belt off

Here is a vid of the sound, recorded from the passenger side

Clutch, ims and rms about 5k ago

I forgot to add that I changed the plugs and coils 2 weeks ago, the noise was there before and is stilll there, so it's not a loose spark plug

My guess is exhaust leak of some kind. When the pipes heat up it goes away. That's why it comes back after sitting for only 30 min the engine will still be hot but the pipes will be cooled off.

That was my thought too, but what confounds me is that it's louder when decelerating, not getting on the gas

My guess would be leaking/cracked exhaust manifold

I have a similar noise on my 2004 C4S. I changed the plugs and coils a few weeks ago. While the mufflers were still off, I started up the engine and the noise was not present. I have concluded that my noise is in the exhaust system somewhere, but haven't dug any deeper. Mine is coming from the driver side.

I will take some video of mine for comparison.

They do sound the same
I'm thinking I'm going to replace all the exhaust gaskets and see what happens
If you find out what is causing it, please pm me
