Some filters fit tighter than others. I have seen some non-OEM filters fit SO TIGHT that they pull the by-pass assembly off the bottom of the canister when removed. This assembly just saps on and off the bottom of the canister, and seals the bottom of the filter. If this is left out the complete bottom is unsealed and will filter NO oil. I have seen cars that have lost these during non-OEM oil changes and have ran for years with NO oil filtering what so ever ( NOT HEALTHY ). Luckily they suffered no noticeable ill effects.

FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY : The metal valve and spring can be flipped or removed and sealed to force all oil to be filtered and NEVER by-pass. Use of a high quality filter like K&N 7011 would be necessary to handle increase in pressure differential at times.

Beside the K&N filter, which others are recommended?
