Default Secondary Air Pump Removal

If I remove the secondary air pump - can I just block the hose rather than installing the plates?

Anyone do it this way?

Slakker?

I know most Spec996 cars have it removed - and mine is headed that direction - so I don't really care about the CEL that will come on - I am removing cats anyway...

That said - I just don't know if you can disconect the hose and just cap it in lieu of completely removing it and getting a capping plate.

I never got around to this one but IIRC you just have to block the hoses to prevent a leak. If no one confirms I will check some other sources.

The problem with blocking the hose is that when (not if) other problems develop with the remains of the SAI system(vacuum leaks for example!) ,you will ignore the CEL.
Better to remove the entire system and get the ROW Flash so you never get an SAI code of any sort -and you do other tweaks to the ECU. Smog Test not an issue for your location ?
Particleweave is developing a cheaper hack circuit for this issue

My indy has a PWIS so the coding should be easy....

I just ordered the block off plates and the gaskets - seems like for $20 and the fact that this is a track car - it's a no-brainer.

Short update:

I removed the pump and simply blocked the hose. Since the CEL was already on due to my exhaust - nothing more happened.

The car starts and runs just fine. Longer term - I ordered the block off plates - but believe it or not - it looks like its going to be a metric pain in the *** to actually uninstall the hoses and get to the block off plates - as in - remove the alternator and all associated bits...

Either way - if you don't want it - feel free to remove and plug the hose... there are no (seeming) ill effects on the performance of the car except a CEL.

Is there a write up on how to remove the pump? Looks easy (but nothing ever is with me)!

Do you have the part numbers for the blanking plates and gaskets? Are they from Porsche or aftermarket?

Thanks

They were aftermarket - I believe I got them from ECS... I can look when I get home.

What will you do in regards to failing emissions?

Ditto in the UK, there is an annual test but is not as stringent as the 'smog'

Early 996's in the UK did not have a secondary air pump from the factory.
