Question 996 Lug Nut Key

Somehow my 20 spline lug nut key has been misplaced. I can't seem to find a part number for this. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Unlikely - there's a bazillion different ones. I had the same problem and ended up at the local dealership where they took out a large box of them and tried each one until we found the correct one. I quickly bought four new plain lug bolts from the service department and had them put those on instead. Unless you live in a high crime area, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thx Rick. I do have some extra bolts. Just need to get these suckers out somehow.

At great expense, I ordered in an "ABC-66" 20 splined key from UK, but it was a 24mm key for Cayenne/Touareg/Transporter Van and way too big (happy to send to anyone who wants it)!

Did you search in all the likely storage areas - tool kit pocket, luggage compartment floor, center console, glove box??

Thx @jhbrennan checked everywhere including removal of the C4 mini-spare to see if it had slipped in there somehow. Re-shoed the car a couple months back and those techs (who say they don't have it) must have thrown it away or thrown it into one of their toolboxes. SOL on that front.

A 12 point 'standard' socket of a certain size will remove your recalcitrant wheel bolts....ask me how I know. You may need to use a hammer to get the socket on.

Thx Stever, my tech was talking about blow torches and drilling it out....I tend to agree that hammering on a disposable 12 point would be a preferable first play, once I'm committed to ruining the splines forever! I'd forgotten that these were Suncoast 5mm Spacer Kit locking nuts, maybe not original OEM product...so have messaged them to see if they can source for me. Otherwise...it's hammer time.

You mention "lug nuts" but that's a common error - you do mean lug bolts, right? If so, the dealer can:
1) Remove locking lug bolt and replace with OEM lug bolt; or,
2) Determine which of the multiple locking lug bolt keys you require and order the key for you.

Both of these options involve dealer interaction and COST.

As suggested, just use the "socket method" and remove lockers and replace with OEM.

YMMV, but my local dealer did it for free. In and out in 15 minutes.

Service yes but if he wants a replacement key there will be a cost, just not sure how much.

Yes, it's a easy solution to a common problem. It will probably be an 18mm size 12 pt socket that works. This hammering on the socket "trick" actually works really well, particularly on the external teeth type of locking bolts Porsches have.

The standard length Porsche non-locking wheel bolts are not that expensive. I think about $6.

Also, if you replace the locking bolt with a standard non-locking ones, you will not have to worry about the losing the key again.
