Default Compressor or Condensor Fan Whirring?!?

Good news is that the car's rattles have been fixed and/or worked themselves out as the car is now approaching 6,500 miles.

Bad news is that I noticed recently a sort of high-pitched whirring sound that cycles when the A/C cycles on and off. Seems to me the car never did this before.

I first thought it was coming from somewhere in the interior of the car in the dreaded dash. But, as I was leaving an indoor parking lot and rolled down the window to pay, I heard that noise coming from outside of the car.

I checked it out and it sounds like its coming from behind the radiator panel at the front bumper on the driver's side. When I manually turn off the A/C. it whines down to a stop, and comes back again when I turn it on and a fan inside the bumper begins blowing.

Question is, is it supposed to do this, or is there a bearing or something going bad in whatever fan unit or compressor unit is cycling with the A/C?

Thanks as always for your thoughts.

Did you ever figure this one out? I've got a loud whirring-screeching sound coming from the driver's side wheel well, and I think it might be the radiator fan, but I'm not sure. It only happens intermittently. Anyone hazard a guess or have a similar symptom resolved?

It turned out that it was the fan in the driver's side radiator, which the dealer replaced. No problems since.

Are you referring to the whirring sound that you hear when you pull into the garage...the car has been running in hot weather, and you've got the AC running? If so, the front fans are thermostatically operated and will kick in if you're running AC and the car is hot. I hear it all the time when I pull into the garage...they stop as soon as you kill the ignition. You dont' notice it on the road or when in traffic, but in an enclosure you'll pick up the whirring sounds. They're just doing what they're supposed to do...cool it down. Now there's a difference between the whirring and the screeching someone mentioned. Some of the newer 997's fans just keep running after you turn off the ignition.

Yeah, this was NOT a normal sound. My fan is definitely about to die.

I think my fan is also about to die as this is not the normal sound either.

I just had my rads+aircon rads replaced, should have done the fans at the same time.

Replacing this fan means removing the bumper cover to get to it, right?

I would try and go through the wheel liner side. Remove the wheel and then the liner. The fan motor should be right in front of you.
