Help!! 1998 911 Porsche in full lock down
#61
I don't know...I won't even swear it's 986 glass, but it definitely comes from a car that doesn't have a straight/angular B-pillar.

I know that I am a little late on this thread but I thought I would jump in anyway. The door handle/key mechanism is separate from the actual latch/locking mechanism with the microswitches and electrical connection. There is a small flat bar/shaft that koes from the handle to the latch. If this breaks, or the slots it goes into break, then the key will turn and not do a darn thing. This may be what happened on yours.
thanks for the input I will update on here once I am into the car and have found the problem!
My second window is replacement window is on its way, I am hopeful to get it today or tomorrow.
YAY
Been over 6 weeks since I have driven the car.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just smash the window on day 1, and then drive the car to a dealer or shop and let them fix the problem? What...maybe three days including the door lock?

Quick Update,
I smashed the window climbed into the car put the key into the ignition reconnected the battery and the car came to life started drove no problems.
Key now opens the door manually so there was no failure within the mechanical locking mechanism which doesn't make sense...
Anyway the car is going now and doing all of the things I need it to do, when I get the time I will take the car back to the mechanic for further investigations.
Thanks for all of your help / advice on this topic

No, I had a car accident in the car I was driving in lieu of the Porsche so I had to accelerate the Porsche repair which meant I just had to get it done.
it wasn't all that exciting anyway, it popped straight away and came out in almost one big piece, easy
