Default getting rid of the CD storage in center console

hey guys,

new 996 owner here. My 911 came with a PCM 2.0 and there appears to be a 1DIN size CD storage unit that can hold an astonishing 5 CD's.

What are my options to rip this out and replace with a cubby? are there original parts I could source for this?

cheers!

A matching cubby is available at https://sunsetporsche.com/ among others. The CD storage just pulls out with a slight tug and the replacement goes in. $40.

No ripping. It pulls out. Replace it with a cubby. Check eBay. Simple project. Good luck!!!

Pop-out the CD trays, grab them with both hands and yank. The whole unit comes right out. Make sure to order the correct cubby. There are two - an upper and a lower. You'll need to order the upper cubby.

It'll take you more time to open the packaging that the cubby came in than it will to swap out the CD holder.

Out of curiocity, does anyone know if the central console delete was a factory option in 996 carreras ?

GT3 had the center console delete. I don't think it was an option for the rest of the line.
