Default Do I have hacked lights? Litronic with no headlight washers

So I've routinely had condensation inside both lenses since buying the car a week ago: 2002 996 C4S

Good news is that I managed to fix the inop turn signal (was corroded connections).

However, I seem to have "hybrid" lenses:

They are Litronics, but there is no headlight washer assembly! My understanding was all 996's came with the headlight washers (my car was optioned with both Code 288 Headlight washers and Code 601 Litronics).

- The headlight washer cap was silicone'd onto the face.
- There is a factory-looking silicone gasket on the inside of the cap, which I think was fitting poorly
- Where the washer arm would enter the headlight assembly, there was a loose cap duct taped in place!

I think the washer caps siliconed onto the face are the most likely cause of water entry. I see we can buy new washers, but I don't see anyone selling just the silver cap.

Has anyone seen this "hybrid" arrangement before?

No headlight washers on my car, and no covers for them either.

No covers - i.e. you have a hole? Or you have a lens with no hole for the headlight washer, just smooth plastic?

I have a feeling that the washers broke at some point and the owner cheaped out and put a band aide on it instead of fixing it.

As far as I know washer covers are only available with the spray nozzles attached for about $125 a pair.

That's kind of what is looks like to me as well. I'll have to check if the machinery on the car is still there to connect to the washers.

Have any of you seen the clear silicone gasket from the pictures? In the $125/pair headlight washer replacements, I don't see the silicone, and yet what I took off the car looks factory.

Hey Benzor,

Been reading your thread. If you get tired to trying to remove what looks like a painted on headlight mask, you may find it easier and less costly to replace with a used 996 headlight enclosure. Here's an example... I've purchase parts from this guy and is highly recommended.

same here, halogen units. I replaced a bulb a few weeks ago. Either litronics are the same as halogen projectors or we all have halogen units

now, if I can only get the wiring on the driver's side to stabilize and stop fluttering on bumpy roads I'll be in great shape! As of now considering the idea of installing some of the aftermarket bi-xenon's from that independent vendor.

2Bags, have you tried removing the wheel lining so you can get a hand on the connector and squeezing it really tight manually?

No, so far I'm confident the weak link is in the headlight housing. I found a suspect connection point with some loosening wire at the attachment point. I'll take a pic at some point. Most times when the light doesn't come on a light tap on the middle of the light turns it on. A few times I've removed them and overall they seem fine, the one spot aside.
