Hi All,
I've run my 996T at AMP and it's a lot of fun. Very tight course, so the 996 doesn't get to show off like it does at Road Atlanta, but it's a great a learning how to drive better.

I'm in alpharetta as well. Would love to meet up with some local guys to check out their 996T's.

I have tried to get some more information on the safety inspection from the folks at AMP and they wouldnt say much other than, "take you car to a dealership for the inspection, its free if you tell them its for AMP track day". Also, I couldnt get any details on type of helmet. Any one who has been there can you tell me what the safety inspection involves? I dont want any surprises.

The tech inspection is pretty simple, here is a link to the tech inspection done by "Hooked on Driving" which is what I used when I was at AMP.

Check out this page:

Basically you can rent the helmet you need from discovery parts which is located on location.

Helmets (*Please make note of updated minimum ratings)

Participants must wear helmets bearing Snell 2005 or later certification. This certification (SA2005, or SA05 / SA2010, or SA10, or SA2015 / SA15) MUST BE visible for the helmet to be allowed. Helmets are available to rent via a 3rd party (Discovery Parts). AMP requires that all participants wear SA rated helmets. This means SA2005, SA2010 and SA2015 helmets will be the only specifications accepted. No M rated helmets will be allowed.

Thats some good info! Thanks. I was thinking that AMP was gonna put the car up on a rack and go through some multipoint inspection with a magnifying glass or something. Its basically just to make sure your car is safe?

Yeah they just want to make sure that you aren't dumping fluids on the track and that nothing is going to fall off of your car on to the track.

Great track... Just down the road from us. I was there when Jeremy was building the place, but haven't seen it since completed.

That long sweeper has been a good catalyst for business, though :-)

High RPMs with elevated oil temps and sustained 0.5-1.0g of lateral force all working against the poorly designed bank 2.

Its one one of those failure hotline calls that start out like : I was at AMP last weekend when.....

Then I stop them, and take every word out of their mouth about how long they'd been on track, where it failed, and where they pull off the track at... That leaves them stunned every time.

At least the tow bill isn't bad... about 75 bucks to land it here..

Yikes. I'm an AMP member but I haven't had my 996 out there yet. I have an X-51 baffled oil pan and a center radiator with low-temp T-stat. Is that enough? With 340 rated tires?

The inspection is simple-check wheel bearings for play, battery wheel secured, no leaking fluids. There prob be on side inspections or can be done at Motor Werks Racing in Cumming, Ga. they have a facility and support right at AMP.

Some events have pre printed inspection forms that can be printed and completed by the driver.

SNELL SA2010 approved helmets-going cheap right now. Or upgrade to a 2015. Discovery has a shop right at the track with rental and new helmets and all driving gear. And it's best to try on gear to make sure of it before buying. Discovery will do that.
