Question Thinking of replacing tail lights with new set.

Hi

I have a 04 996 cab and I am thinking of replacing the tail lights with the newer design. Any advice.. Should I not replace them and keep stock lights? Is this a DYI job? What would the cost be to replace and what manufacturer do you recommend?

Thanks for the advice.

Anthony

I will guess he's talking about the LED taillights. If it is a C4S cab, then you'll need the widebody taillights like the ones on my car. Those are $849 plus shipping per set. Only one place to get them for the widebody cars: Del Rey Customs in Los Angeles: http://delreycustoms.com/
There are a couple of different models for the narrow body cars and they start at $280 with free shipping and top out at about $689. See ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Car-Truck-Pa...p2050890.m1602

Are there any durability issues with depo lights?

From what I have learned, the LED bulbs cannot be replaced.

I have Depo LED sidemarkers, but my taillights are the Del Rey Customs. They had some issues when these first came out a few years ago, but apparently were handled under warranty. I have had mine over a year with no issues. I can't speak to the Depo except to say that my sidemarkers are fine and seemed to be high quality.

BTW, I really love the look. I think the stock taillights are fine, but once you have the LEDs, you won't even consider going back to stock. It's like the difference between Claire and Gloria:

I've had my Depo LED tails for 3 1/2 years and have had no problems. I was worried about what would happen if they went bad and were no longer made so I saved my original tails.

Another vote for DEPO. Or if you are patient/lucky, one off a 997.2 will also fit

997.2 taillights are a different shape than the 996 taillights - much more work than plug-n-play to get those to look right.
