Default What color is my hardtop?

All right, gang. It's time to play "What...color...is...my...hardtop?!" [APPLAUSE]

I have a 996 hardtop and no 996 to put it on, thus I'm trying to sell it. It's dark blue and I'm told it's from 2003. My research shows two likely colors, but I don't know how to pin it down. Does anyone know how to definitively determine the color code of a hardtop?

Any input would be appreciated.

- prk

what color was your car? if top came with the car, then should be color-matched (i.e. same color code)

Sharper pics in better light would help. Interior looks to be Savannah Beige.

It looks a lot like my hardtop which is Ocean Blue Metallic exterior and Savannah Beige interior. If it is from a 2003, it is most likely Lapis Blue Metallic.

Thank you, gentlemen - for both the more serious and less serious replies (the fact that his username is ditto does open a lot of comedic doors.)

You did leave the door open.

You may have hoped that the Porsche color code could be determined from a picture. If you look at the avatars in this thread you can't tell the difference between Ocean Blue Metallic, like mine, and Midnight Blue Metallic, like Atrox's. On a cloudy day you might have the same problem if the two cars were parked next to each other.

Instead of selling the top, how about buying the rest of the car?

Ask the dude you bought it from. Just a wild guess but I'm thinking you got it cheap on Craigslist and are hoping to flip it for more? Nothing wrong with that, I remember seeing these going for very cheap back when I lived in CA and people had cabs but no garage space for the hardtop that they never used...

One option though would be to get the color chip guide for 2003 and try to match it that way (Buy a brochure on ebay). Or ask your dealer if they have a set of color chips you can see. Assuming it's a stock color, someone getting a paint to sample likely wouldn't be getting rid of the matching top.

You could also get two bottles of touchup paints (one for each of your guesses) and give that a shot.

If it's really from 2003, I'd bet that it is Midnight Blue. Seems too dark to be Lapis Blue, and Ocean Blue wasn't offered after MY2000 or so, if memory serves. Ocean Blue is also pretty green looking in the light (and pretty dark looking in the dark), so I think it'd be fairly easy to distinguish.

So, at least there's a decent "best guess" to go upon.
