Default B&M Shifter--Warranty related Question

Hi all:

OK. So it looks like a B&M short throw shifter is a must according to just about anyone I speak to or any post on on the forum. Want to put one into my '01 C2 Cab. The question:

If I install this myself (cost estimate about $300), am I voiding the factory warranty?..or do I have to go with my dealer for $700+ ?

Words of wisdom appreciated.

Thanks.

PA.

My local dealer says they have installed many of these... so, as long as you don't break something (installing it) and expect them to fix it I don't think it will void any warranties.

My understanding from talking to my service dept 4 years ago is if you modify anything that is not officially Porsche made, in this case, SS from B&M, and something happens to your transmission/driveshaft/etc., you're dead in the water. Having said that, my dear friend bought his 3rd Porsche from this same dealer, and the last one was a 996 TT. The dealer installed a B&M SS with NO QUESTIONS ASKED. What does that mean? You tell me.

Do you guys know anything about the new B&M that replicates the Ruf or Techart unit that actually works on the cable and doesn't require any change at the shifter level? Any experience?

brandywine porsche in PA. the number is 610-886-1000 and i spoke to jay. one thing, make sure they don't cheap out on shipping, insist on 2nd day fedex ($15-20), as i waited almost two weeks for mine to come by ground as they "threw in" the shipping...

had mine installed last year . it is great. it doesn't matter who installed it even though if a dealer installs he should guarantee the work. the dealer stated that the only warranty issue is on the shift mechanism itself not the trans. my experience only.

It looks like the stock shifter. If you search, you might find a "how to" thread I saw that had some good pictures.

I'm installing mine tomorrow night. I'll be doing a write-up diy how-to, whatever you wanna call it with some pictures. my friend who has already done two on his car and another friend's car will be helping me so hopefully there wont' be any problems. i'll post it here on rennlist.
