Default Feeling Horny

Sorry about the title couldn't resist.

Thought I would post a few pictures from the horn repair on my 996.1 with a 4 spoke steering wheel, mainly because it seems different from the other threads I have seen on this topic.

First off, horn was disconnected at the horns themselves and still passed safety. Why the fuse was not pulled instead I'll never know, such is life.

My airbag is fixed with the T30 Torx mentioned in other threads, they were super tight though, so ended up having to use Mole Grips (Vise Grips for North America) to get enough torque.

The horn push and airbag bracket is bolted down with 17mm bolts (Same as other cars).

Once I removed the bracket though, I found springs mounted into rubber grommets which seems not to be the case on the other threads I had read??

The rubber had perished so bracket was fairly free to move around. I did "fix it" with a business card, but that only Kind of worked and the peeping every now and then was annoying (although better than constant hornyness!!!).

On another thread I read, someone had used rubber grommets to fix the issue, so I followed suit, however I simply got larger grommets than I needed and cut them to size (I had some lying around).

Pictures are here. Its back in the car and seems ok.

I "fixed" it by stuffing folded up bits of old newspaper between the wheel and the airbag. Shade-tree engineering at its finest.

Then finally I replaced it with a functional 3 spoke wheel, I need to actually fix and sell the old 4 spoke wheel now...

Oh you and your 996.2 3 spoke wheel, its a genetic throwback to a 993 and therefore makes my 996.1 better................................................
