Default 2003 Cab door key issue

As in title, I have a 2003 Cab. I have read that I should be able to lower the top by putting key in drivers door and holding it turned....however mine does not do that. Everything else about the top works fine, including the windows lowering a bit when touching door handle. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks,

But, as we discussed elsewhere, the windows do not go down with the key turned in the door.
Without the windows down, the top down sequence won't start.

But when you push the top down button on the dash, the top does go down, I presume?

Yes, button works perfect. Windows go down, then top. If i keep button pressed after top is down, windows will go back up

The handbrake needs to be engaged ever so slightly on mine or this will not work. But if it's engaged, it works just fine. Mine is a 2002 Cab.

Could be the door latch mechanism. This and the fact that my window did not drop ever so slightly when the door was opened was a clue to one or more failed microswitches in the latch mechanism.

OK, unlock and hold. Top goes down. Lock and hold top goes up. Windows do their thing prior. At least on mine.

You should update the post with the solution as a future reference for others who might experience that problem.

Sorry, but I"m really not 100% sure, it just started working one day. Might have had something to do with the ignition switch replacement, as that seemed to cure all kinds of odd little issues.
