Default 996 rear spoiler fault

Hi guys. I've searched and haven't seen this particular problem. I'm a relatively new porsche owner. About 2 months now.
When I turn the car on I get the spoiler fault light in the dash cluster. It shuts off as soon as I put it in gear and doesn't come back on. The spoiler never comes up. I want to say that it was working when I got the car. I recently changed the air intake and wondering if I mistakenly unplugged a wiring harness connector. Also wondering if I"m supposed to have a switch in the dash to manually control the wing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure about the light, but the only switch for the spoiler is down by your left foot in the the footwell.

Normal. Light stays until car starts moving forwards, then goes out...

NOT normal - warning light on dash illuminates when there is a failure of the spoiler control.

We don't know what year your car is so ??

On my 99 C4 the spoiler light comes on when you first turn on the ignition and goes off when you move forward. perfectly normal.

The spoiler normally comes up when you hit 75MPH and goes back down about 45. There should be a switch down on the left side by the fuse panel so that you can manually raise it if you wish.

Mine does this, it works fine. 996.1

Here is the switch position, its in the drivers footwell at bottom of fuse cover (by the thumb not the finger).

It is completely normal. The light comes on as part of a check that the spoiler is operating normally. Once you move a few feet the light goes out.

If your car is a cab, you will not be able to see when it is deployed from inside the car. You can test it as shown above with the footwell switch.

Maybe on the 996 Mk 1 but not on my 2004 996 Mk 2. Light illuminates when ignition key is turned during starting sequence (as do all the other warning lights) but goes out immediately after start...don't need to move the car to get the light to go out. Maybe OP can let us know what model 996 he has.

Good point and a great illustration of why people should include more details about their car when asking for help.

Lightbulb Convertible Fix

Just FYI for the forum. My 1999 (996) Cabriolet had the spoiler stuck problem. After replacing the battery I had the "spoiler alert" warning light on, but it was in the down position. I manually raised it, but then it would not manually go down. I was going to hit the interstate and go 76mph, but I first when to the store and upon coming out I decided to lower the top. That made the spoiler go down. Something to try if you have a convertible. Also, the warning light did not come back on. Good luck.
