Looks great! How many miles have you put on it since you've owned it?
Thanks - I bought the car with 50k miles on the odometer
At 57k miles the engine developed a problem and was replaced with a completely new engine assembley by the Porsche dealer - including all the engine accessories like the compressor, AOS, water pump, exhaust manifolds, cats, mounts, throttle, alternator, compressor etc
I have driven about 40 k miles on this new engine
There are no documented failures of replacement Porsche engines anywhere
I should note: Every single bulb, display, switch works perfectly - even the sunvisor vanity mirror lights, the amber night lights under the mirror, door latches.
I also have the upgraded the side mirrors with the heated mirrors with the aspheric curve that I imported from Germany for $500.
Finally, every single bulb has been switched to power saving LED, including turn signal, city lights, tail lights, license plate lights, and interior bulbs.
I can picture that happening to me with 7k on my car, lol....not only would I want to die, my wife would be "I told you so'ing" me to death.
Made you a believer in warranties, I guess!
Actually, here's the thing - warranties rarely - and only on these forums, seem to work out. Vast majority of the time, warranties don't work out - they heavily favor the insurer - which is why they do so well financially! They prey on the people who are nervous.
I think the original owner I bought it from was the cause of the engine failure, as is most of what I see on this forum, the failures happen to second/third owners.
The guy I bought it from on the test drive, didn't even bother to wait for the engine to get to temp before showing me how fast it could accelerate - taking it to 6K RPM.
He hardly ever drove it, and instead of changing engine oil every year at a minimum, he changed it every two years because that's how long it took him to get to 10K miles. Can you imagine?
The failure rate on the M96 is vastly overblown. Now yes, it happened to me, but I have lots of friends with M96, 99% of the 100 people in my local new england chapter of PCA that have M96's that have never had engine failures...My Porsche dealer who is the highest volume Porsche dealer in New England has seen 4 M96 engine failures in all the time they've sold and serviced them....That is...drum roll...4 failures over 10,000 units of M96 engine cars they sold over the 10 freakin' years of selling the 996.1 to 997.1 (997.2 went to DFI)
Then, you go online and search for "failure of remanufactured M96 engine" and you will find nada zip...
Tells you something.
The reason why 996 and 997.1 Porsche's sell relatively cheap is two simple reasons : Huge supply (albeit most are in sort of rough shape) and Internet hysteria.
I understand that....I used to sell electronics in my younger days...I know about the margins on warranties. In this case, however, worked out well for you.....this time, you got dealt a card from both the top and bottom of the deck, lol.
Well folks - car is sold for $23K my buy it now price
I had 2 folks reach out to me afterwards offering up to $25k!
But of course I'm honoring the buyer
I think clean cars are getting decent prices...
The sub $20k mk2 needs another $5-$8k of work
Congrats on your sale roadsession. Nice you honored the buyer. What's next for you?
Well for pure entertainment - I'm staying on this board ;-)
For daily driving I bought an Audi S8.
It is not a 911 but it is an amazing sedan
0-60 in 3.5 sec
Luxurious as a Manhattan penthouse
Night vision camera
Side and lane assist
Dynamic cruise
Massaging, heating and cooling seats
Black on black
It's amazing. I shopped the Panamera turbo, alpina b7 and Amg s63
The s8 came on top and this review sums it up
