$14k Cayman with nothing wrong?

Found some small metal particles and is now accepting half because a mechanic said it needs a full rebuild. I can't figure out if it's a scam or if someone should tell this guy a few small particles are not catastrophic.

I think "some small metal particles" is the big wild card in this situation. Metal? What type of metal? Ferrous? Non-ferrous, but copper? Aluminum? I would hope that the "mechanic" was much more specific, and this guy is just being cryptic because a) he doesn't understand the specifics or b) he's too lazy to spell it out in hist post. Either way, there's more research needed for a potential buyer.

freind just picked up a 99 boxster in similar fashion. Pretty sure he paid something like 2k for it. Hard top included!
the original owner said there was metal in the filter. freind did oil change and found plastic in it in. Not metal. Looks like timing chain guide rail material, dropped sump plate and found more plastic. No metal.
