Porsche Tax - NZD2000 for a/c motor
Got the dealer to take a look at rather noisy A/C system while the car was with them.
The a/c fan blower motor is the cause and the cost to replace incl. 1 hr labour and tax is NZD2200.
Even the service manager mentioned the price is a bit steep....
For those in the know, the P/N for this gold plated German made motor is 99662410702, isn't it?

That's ridiculous! They are $45 on eBay. I've got one I'll give you if you pay for the shipping.

@Slakker, you're on, I'll PM you after I get the dealer to confirm that we're talking about the same part.
Their estimate doesn't come with a P/N which leaves me guessing.

Ummm.... service manager said is was just a "bit" steep... That's like $1600 US. More like a major "bite" in the *** expensive... OUCH! Slakker is a good man, he'll even throw in a shirtless picture for your garage wall free of charge!

If it is just noisy bearings - dismantle the motor and replace the bearing(s) ?
Great opportunity to demonstrate that famous Kiwi ingenuity and improvisation :-).

Sounds good. It's out of the'99 C2 track car I just stripped. It was very easy to get to if I recall correctly.

I'll pass on any offer of topless picture of males or females especially since lost of my neighbours (and their dogs) would into my garage to ogle the 996. Don't want to give them the wrong idea.
Kiwi's No. 8 wire -> http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/inventio...demarks/page-1
I've just rewired my DA polisher as the cable almost had a break in it causing it to be on and off randomly. One thing to fix per weekend, that's my limit. I would suspect that it was the bearing that caused it to be noisy. I'll do a research (google) and see what can be done. Will be good to be able to save USD200 or shipping cost from OKC. Although I can potentially get my 'mate' Steven Adams to get it off Slakker and bring it back to Wellington the next time Steve's down here :-)

BTW, Adams is currently down in Wellington with a few of his team mates right now.
Anyway, called the dealer for P/n and his answer was "Sorry can't release P/N in situation like this. It's company policy; from higher up".
Obviously they are trying to maximise their earnings by taking a big margin on top of parts. Seems that from now on I'll give more work to the local Porsche indy then. Unless they too have now refused to either work with supplied parts or not cooperating when asked for part numbers.

Seems to me the 996 is becoming the pariah of the Porsche dealers like happened to the 928 back 10 years ago. They really don't want your business if they tell you that price. That's the 'eff you' price, if you take it fine, if you don't, that is fine too.
I know I'll never darken the dealers door.

They've been good in not charging for the time taken troubleshooting my transmission pan's oil seep.
I can get the community here to confirm whether we are talking about the same part. I'll upload the service notes to this thread to crowd-source confirming the P/N this fan blower.

Hey 318touring,
I too know the pain of the price difference between US dealership and AU dealership...
There is a wrecker in NSW whos got a few 996s, I can PM their email address to you if you'd like. Might be cheaper to get it from here because of the AUD and shipping.
Have you priced some AU wreckers? Also one in QLD I have their details as well, their prices are very good.

I think it was the price they have to sell it taking into account taxes, profit margin, nice coffees etc.
