Can a 996 NA engine be put in a 996 Turbo?

Can a 996 NA engine be put in a 996 Turbo?
I'm considering a 2001 Turbo (manual), just over 100k miles.
I hear the Metzger engines are bulletproof but should the unthinkable happen, starting price is $35k, more than I want to spend.
Would a 996 NA engine fit in without much additional modifications or is this a totally different realm?

In another thread Jake from FSI has a turbo motor available for $12k. I think you should get the car, assuming all is well, and cross that bridge when you get to it. (If it even happens)

I think that the situation you describe is pretty unlikely. In the event that it did happen, I think you'd be better off selling the turbo as a "roller" and buying another one. You take a risk any time you buy a used car; especially one that's over 15 years old. What you get in exchange for that risk is a fabulous performance car for a fraction of the price of a new one. If you're comfortable with that risk, then just enjoy it. If you're not, then buy a newer car or a warranty.

This engine belongs to one of our customers, but it is a STEAL at 12K with only 17K miles on it!
We don't sell used engines. NO WAY!
I can get anyone that may be interested in contact with him.
That said, stay away from engine conversions. The two engines share nothing.
Just finished this beastly turbo myself, yesterday... Installation on Monday!

Jake - The pictured engine is NOT the actual engine that is available from a customer for $12k, right?
I think if I had the money laying around I'd pull a KK and buy the one pictured and just have it sit in my living room, it's beautiful...
To the OP: If your Turbo engine needs replacement you're probably better off just selling it as is and replacing the whole car with a 996NA if that engine is acceptable as a subsititute. (which it shouldn't be, otherwise don't buy a turbo in the first place). Or find a Boxster engine, even cheaper. My own philosophy is if you can't afford or are unwilling to fix something properly you shouldn't even buy it in the first place. That goes for more than just cars. What's that line again...If it floats, fly's, or f***'s, just rent it... Similar concept.
