On a serious note, I'm leaving mine plugged into a trickle charger, I leave the frunk popped so that I can access the battery if it does anything weird, at least I can get to stuff, mine is not used super often.

I was leaving the engine cover unlatched too, until I fixed the bulb yesterday and that only goes off if its fully latched!!!. Typically I'm leaving it unlocked, but does not matter either way, the little green light on the charger I use, will switch over from RED to a relaxing pulsating green to indicate its charged and on the maintenance cycle.

It is NOT the age of the car but the health of the BATTERY that you need to worry about.

You should be able to run the wire out the door and close the door on the wire without having to go through the window...T

And, batteries seem to go bad faster if you live in a hot climate...T

Regardless of how old your battery is, deep discharges will destroy it faster than anything else. I generally keep one car in my garage and once car in storage and swap them out every couple of weeks; even if I know it will only be a week, I leave the maintainer plugged it. It's way cheaper and much less hassle than forgetting a dome light for a week and ruining a $100 battery.

Feeling very unappreciated here. If I wanted that I'd talk to my wife.

The OP's question isn't any goofier than those actually recommending a battery tender for a car that's gonna sit for all of a week.

I plug mine into a trickle charger if it has to sit for more than 4 weeks or so and never have a problem. Same thing with my pickup--I try to drive it every three weeks at a minimum, but I don't worry about it starting. Hell, my DD sits at the airport for a week twice a month.

*shrug* I don't think it's goofy to get into the habit of plugging in a car you know is going to be parked for some period of time. Sometimes I plan for a week but it winds up sitting for a month.

The car and the tender are already in the same place...why not spend the extra 30 seconds to plug it in? Probably overkill 90% of the time, but Murphy dictates that the one time I don't bother will be the day I forget to properly close the hatch, or front trunk, or close the glove box completely...

I have yet to see a RL, Corvette Forum, 6Speed, etc. thread complaining about how remembering to connect the battery tender resulted in half a day lost while trying to get into your own car and find a ride to Autozone, only to find out they don't have the correct size battery in stock...

I started out just hooking my car up to a trickle charger if I wasn't going to drive it for a long time- like more than a month. Now I plug everything in that I'm not going to drive tomorrow- bike, tractor, cars. As stated earlier, we often don't plan to not drive something for a while but it just happens and I like the idea of "maintaining" the batteries- probably last longer and be more reliable.

Sorry for the noob response...

Not locking drains the battery? I just picked up a '99 996 and I typically leave my cars unlocked while in the garage.

Drains battery faster, I think, when unlocked. More of the electronics remain on versus locking the car. Not a problem, however, if you drive your car regularly...T

Lots of good suggestions here, but I can't believe no one has mentioned one of the most important prep items for a 1-week storage ...................change the blinker fluid !
