Default Rebuilding a waterpump?

So I had to replace my pump, it was leaking a little. Turns out the old pump is in pretty decent shape sans the bearing (I can't notice a flat spot but my machinist friend can) and impeller (chipped just a very little). Is there a shop or place around that can rebuild them?

Mostly if it's cheap enough it may not be a bad idea to have a spare around just in case.

I have an extra one as well. Agree that it seems like a shame to throw it away.

For something this critical, better to just chuck it. Actually recycle it and turn it in at a metal scrapping place.

There's been many times I thought the same thing too. It's the same thing for things like control arms. I really wish they all came with replaceable bushings. S

Don't be like KK. LOL

He rebuilt his SAI but that part isn't engine critical. He should've just rebuilt his IMS as it would've had the same end result as using a cheap one.

I agree. Mine went straight into the recycle bin and I never looked back. I wouldn't waste a penny on rebuilding (or attempting) something so critical to the engine, and that I would never put back on the car, ever.

You can buy a Pierburg WP for around $180.
Is it worth risking you engine?

Waterpump bearings are generally sort of special and have the inner race actually manufactured with the shaft. I sort of doubt Porsche uses a readily available aftermarket one (complete guess on my part) and even if they did, I wouldn't do it. And I'm a bearing guy.
