Ok you've got me worried about my engine now, thanks! The PPI included this part:
Very slight oil seep on Bank 2 valve cover
They said this was normal for a 16yr old car, tell me your thoughts.

Sorry man, didn't mean to do that...

I freaked myself out for a bit there too. But some of these forum guys have made me wise in the ways of 996 ownership - the mantra is "Just drive the car."

Don't forget D-chunk. The 99s may have the best IMSB, but they also love the D-chunk

Sorry Ivan, couldn't resist. There's far too much to stress over, especially since the occurrence rate isn't that high. Just drive it and enjoy, that's the key

Thanks, I'm not that worried about the engine. It's a two owner car with a ton of service records through carfax. I've been driving her every day since ownership, so I'm doing my best!

Went to pull my center caps off my wheels today, and an emblem came off. I guess it's time for some 3M double stick. In addition, a brake light went out.... gotta check that out tomorrow.

Is the L&N Spin On Adapter worth the price? It seems pricey for what it is... but what the F do I know?

My '99 needed a cam cover re-seal on one bank for the same reason (seeping oil). It is a common issue.

For what it's worth - I bought my '99 with NO records, with NO inspection (I took it in to my indie for a post-purchase inspection so I would have a baseline for what I'd gotten myself into, so I was relieved when it came back with a clean bill of health).

I like the spin-on filter adapter - I am not a fan of the plastic housing and diddling around with the filter elements, and I felt like I was on the verge of breaking it every time I changed the oil. If I get some better filtration due to the LN unit and spin-on filters, good on me.

There will definitely be some odds-and-ends to address - but that's just a fact of life for a car that's pushing 17 years old. All things considered, I've been very happy with the car's reliability - my wife's 4-year-old Nissan has spent far more time in the service bay than my 996 has in the same 4 years...

Default Hope springs eternal

with a strong wallet, I ll know more tomorrow. My mechanic (newly acquired) is going to giver her the once over tomorrow and if all checks out then we have a deal in the am. Anything particular I should mention ? All service records are accounted for and it is below 50k miles. This owner # 2 had it for 8 years .

I wouldn't mention anything - I'd rather let the wrench do his job than distract him with my "I read on the Internet" worries.

Classic case of the previous owners saving it for the next guy! Hopefully it's good and tlake drives the snot out of it!
