Default top mounts 997 on a 996

good morning people, I've just ripped out my front suspension on my 2001 996 c4
.Ive refurbed my anti roll bar, fitted polly bushes, drop links ,coffin arms and link arms. stripped legs they seem ok so stripped repainted them, cleaned up all parts on leg and greased bearing. I'm about to order top mounts as near side is proper gone. prices vary from £250 a side to about £160 .I found 997 mounts for £60 in Germany they look like they would fit and use same top bearing. which leads me to think only stud spacing might be a small issue. Anybody tried 997 mounts on a 996 wondered why such a price difference the look almost identical...regards Rich

I am not an expert but you might need to look at the angle the shock/strut is held at as well. I am sure the experts will chime in at some point.

It's that thing without them side by side you can't tell I noticed that the angle of after market ones was not an issue for them. Most seem too show c4 mounts for 996 and 997 the same. But I've seen c2 and c4 listed the same they are so different .its a tough one but the saving us quite large for a pair if it works

Just did my 996 C2 with 997 upper strut mount (front). Porsche updated 996 upper strut mount with 997 for C2 version. You need to check for C4.

I know turbo and C4S has different upper mount to C2.
Not sure about C4. Check the base part number (996) and compare it with C2.
If it is the same, you might be able to use 997 part.
If not, you need to go with turbo/C4S upper mount.

c4 is quite different to the c2 the c4 is angled. The 996 and 997 shock parts all have the same numbers its only the top mount with different prefix maybe you can use 997 on 996 and not other way round its really tempting

ordered 997 top mounts anyway gonna take a chance, looked at many pics from different angles. pics with part numbers so not stock images can't see anything major. mine was totally separated from mount so hopefully gonna make quite a difference. ordered both sides so hopefully with all the other bits I've done car will be improved. To be fair steering was pretty tight after all the new bits so may just tighten it up plus get rid of the knocking. taken callipers off too remove legs so giving them a quick service and bleed although in the winter gonna give them a proper birthday. will get it back together within the week and use it while the weather is good but making a must do list for cold winter nights ... ill post results on the 997 tops

Picked up me 997 mounts only ordered them yesterday, fit the holes no problem and thought might have to dremel holes a little to get the offset. But as luck would have it my legs where set at max on slots to achieve camber on old mounts with 997 mount strut hole in same position its in centre of adjustment. i may dremel the slot before i bolt it up to give me a little more adjust if i need it. think its gonna work, but will need an aline to see if its perfect but looking good so far. Leg 2 tomorrow

Yes in UK. Where did you get them from? That's a huge saving on 996 C4 ones.

Design 911 .. But I found them cheaper else where and got a discount there is another supplier takes a bit longer but 160 delivered .. So they discounted them down ... They seem fine got slight wobble on wheel but just remounted me rims case I fitted them badly with windy gun... Would have been close to 5oo quid for 996 ones .. Getting tracking tomorrow let you know

They do look the same. Have you had the new and old ones side by side and seen anything different?
