My internet went down hard last night, and today ATT sent a tech out to fix it. He was interested in the cars in the shop, and we got to talking about the 996. He knows about Camaro, 'Cuda, Harley, F250, etc. Nice guy, but not really into them thar foreign jobbys. Kinda typical for rural TX.
So, anyway we are chatting about cars, and planes and stuff and he asks about the 996. He's about 6'1", something over 200Lbs, and was thinking it was too small and too expensive for him, as he's looking for a new/used fun car, like maybe the new Mustang.
I open the pax door, and run the seat back, and recline it a bit and he fits in without trouble. I guess he was remembering the last time he was in a MG or something. Then, he wants to know how much they cost, and I let him guess at it for a bit. $45k? $50k? lower $38k? When I told him what I spent he didn't believe me. I asplained about the IMS gear, and higher mx costs than the Mustang, but he was hooked.
I hopped in and fired it up and we took a little dash around the back roads. He's used to the work van, or his K5 Blazer, or the F250 crew cab and it was funny watching him press the non-existent brake pedal as I toasted though a few corners at adequate speeds.
Now he wants a 911. He's got it bad, bad, bad. Can't believe that you can get one if these for less than $20k, and looks and drives like that! I gave him my card(he knows where I live of course), and told him to keep in touch and I'll help him out if he's serious. I just got an email with 5 links for 996s in the N TX area from 99-06. I'm guessing he'll have one in a few months.
I'm a bad guy.

The poor guy. He never even saw it coming. I like mustangs, but once you get the Porsche bug, nothing else feels quite right again.

Check out cargurus.com. I thought I saw some in that price range. There is a SC'd 2001 in silver and fun body parts on eBay for $21k. He could buy my C4S Cab for $28k as there is a 968 cab I saw that looks like it would be a fun weekender.

"all y'all" is an affectation that many Southerners would never deign to use. Further, many of us would defer to "you" and "you'uns" if it was necessary to address individuals and a group at the same time.
With the possible exception of "f**k all y'all," many of us would not use "all y'all." A teacher (we call those "school marms") might.
A sweet old lady in Georgia serving up peach tea might use "all y'all." A manly Texan would generally NOT.
Also, be careful with your barbecue. Some of those "sauces" are just nasty, runny vinegar water. *shudder* A proper barbecue should leave you looking like you just ate the *** out of a live rhino.

It took my one ride in a track prepped 930 Turbo 25yrs ago in the back hills of Hollywood by a Porsche driving instructor to totally change my way of thinking. Of course I bided my time with Camaro's because that's what I could afford and I had some really good handling and fast Camaro's too. But when the time was right I sold it all and bought a Porsche.

Oh I still have my 1955 Chevy Belair with a supercharged SBC Munci 4sp, Currie 9" and a 1980 Camaro front subframe so I have disk brakes and power steering with modern suspension. When I need to go fast in a straight line that's the one for me.

Isn't there a guy in TX with a lot of DIY experience? Used to be on the forum a lot...lol
And they still let you in?![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I've always had a thing for older Vettes but the C7 is truly an enticing car, too. Even the performance of the base car is a deal and it looks phenomenal, too. I find myself pricing them out online more and more these days. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Good going. I'm doing my best to spread the word that a 996 is the smart way to get a stellar high-performance, luxury (Porsche is a luxury brand - no need to shy away from that fact) car for the cost of used Prius.
When people ask why I didn't sell my C2 when I got the GT3. I give them a ride and tell them what they'd need to spend to get a comparable car. Happy shock follows.
RE: Vettes -- The boss just upgraded from a C6 to a C7. It is absolutely a nicer, better-built car, but it still makes me feel like I am sitting in a bucket. I'll stick to 911s. To each their own.

Son's future father in law just bought himself a retirement gift. 2016 Z06 optioned out with all performance mods.
OMG - He let me drive it. When I got on it from about 10 mph, all that came out was "day-um!!!" I believe he said it was a 2.8 sec 0-60 time, and he's only had it up to 118. But then again, it only has 900 miles on it thus far.
I was lucky to work as a tech in a Chrysler/Plymouth dealer in early 70's. The days of 426 Hemi Cudas, GTXs, Road Runners, 440 police interceptors, etc. I love musclecar V8's. Love my 911, but I have to be honest - I really thought for a second about trading it in for a C7 Z06 after hitting the loud pedal.
