Got to give him credit though, it actually doesn't look as bad as you might expect. Needs some work on the *** though as it looks seriously nose heavy from the profile view.

That's hysterical!

x2. It looks too nose heavy even with the added sideskirts. Definitely needs some kind of rear apron. It would look better if he sectioned off a couple inches from the front.

I had the first 3 too, but they aren't really computers in the accepted sense (e.g. general purpose).

My first PC (replaced the TRaSh-80 with it's whopping 32k of RAM and dual 5.25s!) was an 8088 with 128k of ram and a single 3.5" and monochrome monitor. Nothing like running Windows 3.0 from floppies! I built that thing up to 512k of RAM, dual 3.5" floppies, a CGA monitor, and a 10MB hard drive that cost me $800 at the time

Gotta say, building computers was much easier back then. You had one option and it fit or it didn't. The last computer I built was a 486. Just built a new one at home off a Shuttle XPC and that turned into a giant cluster with all the different package formats and sizes. Thank god Amazon has a fairly decently return policy

I think that 486 (100mhz!) had 2GB of RAM and maybe 800MB of disk. With all the variations I went through to get Linux to run on it I probably spent about $6k of mid-90s money on it. This new thing (even after getting raped on the RAM) cost less than $1k. It has a 3.4ghz i7, 32GB of RAM, a 500MB SSD, and a 2TB HDD. It's also a fraction of the size of that old full tower!

Now if I can just get the little bastard to PXE

You're doing it wrong! When I moved to Michigan I drove my C4S with 3 bikes on the roof, both of my 55lb labradoodles, luggage/clothing for 2 weeks, tools to handle any emergency repairs/maintenance and a 30lb bag of dog food.

In fact, my signature picture was taken shortly before I crossed the Oregon border into Idaho on that very trip...

Apparently is was good enough to sell it. . Get this: 3 years ago when I first got the 996 and was working on the engine. This dude stopped by because his buddy lives a few houses down the street and saw me working in the garage with the 996 back end taken apart. Didn't put two and two together until, he said he had a 928 Cayenne bumper that he just sold. My response was "That was YOU!!"

Does anybody know a good "geek to English" translation app or website I can run this through?

Psychology major here.

(Oddly enough, though, at one time I was qualified to drop nuclear weapons. Go figure)

Agreed, but the Commodores/Amiga were legit.

That was obviously the 486dx instead of the sx. In those days, Gateway was king of the PC. And Windows was finally usable with version 3.1 or in an office environment, Windows for Workgroups 3.1. Novell was king but about to begin its demise with word perfect, lotus, and Corel draw in tow.

IIRC, DOS 3.31 was the big breakthrough that allowed for partitions larger than 20MB, so then you could upgrade your MFM to an RLL controller and reformat your 20MB HD to 35MB.

Ahhh, those were the days. Now all the young pups seem to spurn anything that isn't cloud based Google apps. Hypocrisy I say!

Yeap it was a DX50 that I overclocked to 100.

Ugh. I hate the cloud. The cloud is evil.

I do have a very good job and paycheck from one of the early cloud players. So I feel a little dirty when I go home at night

Damn, too much geek talk going on here.

Back to original topic:

BTW, there was a reason why I returned my TRS-80. I just can't think of it right now. It's funny to think that Radio Shack was once the shiznit back in the day. LOL

Whenever and if my m96 expires, unless China starts making these. That's not my kit btw.
