PSE is absolutely the best option I've ever had--in any car! I had it installed last week in my '04 Carrera. Makes you smile with every gear shift! I had it in my '02 Carrera and loved it, and when I got my '04 (bought one out of dealer stock), I knew the first thing I would do was get PSE. Driving for the first week with the stock exhaust just seemed too tame.

You should consider having just the mufflers installed, and not the electronics and vacuum stuff that controls the bypass valves. I had just the mufflers installed--it took just over an hour. If you have everything installed, they need to take apart a good bit of your interior (you're asking for squeaks and rattles!) to run the wiring harness from the engine to the fuse box, and it takes something like 8 hours.

Guys, what's the $$ difference between full-on PSE & "just the mufflers?"
Is the new sound loud enough to drown out radio, CD, etc.? What about the sound on a long driving trip? Is it too much?

$$ difference b/n full on PSM and muffler only...
when you buy PSE, you will get everything: electronics and muffler.
the $$ difference is in the install. you can DIY if you just install the muffler, if you want the electronic installed, it will COST you big time.

no need to install the electronic to cut off exhaust sound. it sounds deep loud but no obnoxious, my 70 year old neighbor loves it too and i leave the house at 6am every weekend! no one complained.

if you close the window, you barely hear it. will not affect radio.
if you lower the window, you are in heaven.

And shop around--there is a huge difference in Porsche parts pricing from one dealer to the next.

I paid under 1k, - that's a great price.

Regarding the electronics, as long as you shift below 3700 rpms or so it's not loud at all.

Rob,
Under $1K? Wow--that's way below dealer cost. Was it new? I paid $1,550, no tax, shipping included.

All this hoopla over PSE has made me think that I want it more than I want to upgrade the "in dash" audio.

Would any of you SF Bay Area guys be willing to give me a demo of PSE? I'm in the Mtn View vicinity, and could drive over or meet somewhere in between to hear you run through the gears. Send me a PM if okay.

Are you serious about the dealer having to take apart your interior if you want to have the electronic switch installed???

There is only $A 200 difference in installation price with and without the switch... so i thought i might as well go the full monty and install it.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

They may not literally take apart the whole interior, but, yes, the dealer has to route the electricals. They also have to tap and route vacuum lines. I believe the number of hours for a full install is 8 hours, and 2 hours if it's just the muffler.

I suppose it depends on how much they charge if it's only the muffler. They are either way overcharging for just the muffler, or way undercharging for the full install. Another way to look at it, the install can cost just 1 hour of your personal time as a DIY. It is that easy. So, if the muffler only install is DIY, the price savings from the full install would be the full price for the installation .
