Couldn't you just put the cup in the holder?

The holder isn't working - OP is trying to move the cracked fascia from his 996's cupholder to the replacement VW cupholder.

Not on his turbo. What he needs is the cup holder from a base C2, or Jetta. The turbo has the same 'body' cup holder, but that part that actually holds the cups are slightly different and swapping parts to that piece will not work.

Not sure why he's using a cracked cup. How expensive is a new cup? OP, if you can afford a Porsche, even a crappy 996, you can afford a new cup.

Maybe a pic of the cup would help.

I don't think anyone is reading anything I am saying. Or, maybe this is a joke? lol You guys are hilarious.

My cup holder works.
The fascia/trim is missing.
I want to replace the cup holder so that aesthetically it looks like it should.
Jetta one will not fit or work.

So put the cup in the holder.

Is this a joke? Are we just posting parts of our cars that work now? Gonna be a lot of threads. Cars have lots of parts.

My left front caliper works.

The curvature of the fascia is different than the Jetta, although it is essentially the same design. I will check to see if I can make a piece since there is no way in hell I will ever put a cup of liquid above my PCM Navigation and risk spilling!!

I'm not sure why OP is so worried about an operational cup holder since he said he won't risk putting the cup over the nav unit (?)

Why not just glue the good fascia piece onto the broken cupholder and be done with it if you don't want to use the cupholder anyway?

Dude they are messing with you. Welcome to the 996 forum.

There are a handful of p-car exclusive salvage yards, I would start there.

I'm not sure I understand - if this was a joke, it would be funny.

Unless The Attorney was telling it.

I'm still confused? The 996 has a cup holder? Next, you'll be telling me it has a glovebox...

I just had to find a replacement for my in-dash cupholder and had to use the fascia from my old one on the replacement I picked up from eBay.

Looking at the pictures of your cupholder, it looks different than mine did without the fascia. I think it has split in two and the front trim separated from the part of the fascia that attaches to the cupholder. If you manage to find a replacement fascia - I'd be surprised if you could - you'll need to remove that piece of the fascia that attaches to the cupholder and it is tricky to reattach it correctly. There is a gear in the cupholder that causes the fascia to slide, and I haven't seen instructions that show how to line it up.

eBay is probably your best bet to find a complete unit with the fascia and change out the whole unit.

Personally I would get this multi-function holder.......whole bunch-o-stuff you could hold with that plus you don't need a fascia. Ur welcome!
