If the debris is magnetic wouldn't that mean that it would cling to the IMSB rather than escape to the drain plug?

I think now is the time you cut your losses and just sell it as a roller for $6k.

It's not always IMSB related, but to be safe, I think you need to get the car over to your mechanic to have it checked. What happens is that as these cars age, the electrical connections (like the engine ground strap that connects near the sump plate on the driver's side of the frame) become susceptible to interference from magnetic fields that are caused by things like the debris build-up on the drain plug.
Probably best not to start your car and to have it flatbedded into your mechanic. You should probably call Flat Six Innovations and discuss a rebuild: 706-865-1963 and ask for Jake.

Well, thank you, but I still don't get all this hype about magnetic drain plugging. I just drained the oil out of my '03 cab and placed a strong pull magnet under the drain plug and let it sit overnight. The next morning there was NOTHING! Notta thang! Wasted ten bucks on that magnet too! Anyway, I did pull that magnet out from under the driver side rear. Wonder if it caused the blinker to start strobin'? Well thank goodness, I was able to recycle the oil. I just poured it back in the car! Yay! I'm feeling like one of those tree huggers! It's not smart to waste 10W40 and that's why I just blend it in with that fancy Mobile Home fake stuff. Anyway, I think it's working okay now, but I may take your advice and drive up to Cleveland next week and get those guys to give me an idea how to keep this thing from exploding. I'm probably kin to those guys anyways... Just never know. yee haaaw!!!

p.s. anyone interested in ocean front property in Arizona?

Wow, this gives me a GREAT idea. Magnetic IMSBs !!! That way, they self-contain their own debris, preventing all that crap from ruining the motor..

I gotta give Jake a call and get working on this right away.
