It's composite. I've got the exact same pump that I ordered from Pelican sitting on my workbench ready for install.

Your posting prompted me to go double check my old OEM pump, which I saved when a new one was installed in 02/2013 at 67K miles.

At first glance, the impeller looks like its metallic. But closer examination suggests its made of some kind of hard composite material...not really "plastic" in my opinion.
