993 Turbo Catches Fire @ NY Auto Show

Sometimes you'll catch a metal sprinkler head and kick off a spark - and if you haven't capped the tank well or, as gnat mentioned, kept all of the grass debris cleaned up, that's all it takes.
A driver accustomed to the rather strong odors produced by air-cooled cars may have been partially responsible for the fire's spread. By the time he realized that this was more serious than the car's typical "got a little warm on the way to Home Town Buffet for the early-bird special" bouquet, it was fully engulfed. It also seems that the walrus foreskin upholstery - which had absorbed a great deal of the driver's Ben Gay - was more flammable than the concrete and rebar cell-block-esque interiors we poor 996 drivers are accustomed to. The driver's rubber hemorrhoid donut may also have contributed to the conflagration. Thankfully, the driver had two extinguishers mounted to the uprights of his walker, so the fire WAS able to be extinguished after finally being identified.
The driver was interviewed shortly after the fire. When asked if he had any idea what happened, he looked around the room, wet himself slightly, and said, "I can't remember where I live. Is this Tulsa?"

My Dad participated in the Detroit Auto Show back in the late 60's and early 70's with Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge. The cars had to be completely drained of gas and have batteries disconnected before PUSHING them into the convention center.
