so thats 165,000 miles - as long as the car has been serviced properly with IMS addressed, that car probably has another 60K miles left - not bad for $11-$12KUS

FYI, one thing you can do is go to the following website and type in the vin #. Scroll to the bottom and it will tell you the original MSRP and factory options of most pcars. Doesn't seem to work with a lot of the '99s though (including mine.)

I agree the only I dislike about the 2nd one is the stupid spoiler on the back of it. I wonder if i could buy OEM trunk with the mechanical spoiler.

I have a 2001 C2 which is for sale. It has 120,000 km on the chassis but only 20,000 km on the best rebuilt motor you can get, a 3.6L Flat Six Innovations (Jake Raby) motor with 340 HP (40 more than stock). You were saying you want to do a rebuild. This motor would cost you around $23K US ($30 K CDN) including the cost of shipping the car down to Georgia. My car has 1997 GT3 brakes and suspension, a Mark 1 aerokit, and a brand new maxspeed exhaust including X cats and is in excellent condition. I will sell it for $35K and have complete maintenance history.

6'7" is going to be a squeeze. If you're ever going to want to wear a helmet, I'd say no way.

A Cab would at least give you headroom (although having your head sticking up that high in the event of a rollover...eew). I'm only 6'2", and it's uncomfortable with a helmet that can't add more than 2 inches to my height.

No I don't plan on taking it the track ever. Maybe I should go Automatic instead? I can't stand the look of a Cabriolet trim.

This is the kind of deal you are looking for. Whether this one is it or not, you have maintenance history from an owner that knows how to do things the right way. It takes some of the risk out of getting a POS with an unknown history. See the current 40th AE thread for a recent example. I would buy from a PCA member or Rennlist way before I would buy from a dealer again.

service/maintenance history is #1 - unfortunately many buyers get too excited and jump waaay too early. easy to find a great example, just have to be patient - unfortunately i wish i knew how to shop before i got married - guys on their 3rd marriage avoid mistakes, are great decision makers and are great car buyers.

+1

I'd be tempted by this too. A FSI engine is $$$. I priced one last year when my engine went but couldn't justify the $30K cost (and 6 to 8 month wait).

Well, that certainly rules out a Boxster. You're getting good advice on purchasing a 996, just take your time. I think your best value is in a C2 Coupe - for the money you want to spend you can find one in great shape properly maintained with complete service history and low miles.

i thought many porsche seats can be lowered and adjusted for tall drivers by changing out seat rails or similar?? one thing i've noticed is that the early 911's(911sc/964/993)have more legroom than the 996 when seat is adjusted/slid back.

Looks like a pretty good deal (I'm assuming it is CDN). Especially if he has the receipts for the work he did on it. I have that exact car and love it. The hood should be a wrap but I think it looks kind of fun as is.

Plan on doing the IMS retrofit, AOS and water pump when you get it and you'll be in great shape.

+1 on that car BUT this would be my choice car from BATTEAUX:- I have a 2001 C2 which is for sale.
