Default Borla exhaust for 996

Im interested in buying an aftermarket exhaust for my 1999 996 Carrera 6spd for less than $1,000 Dollars and I found that Borla makes an exhaust for the 996 GT3. for the price and the great quality I know Borla has I thought its a great deal. Unfortunately I called Borla and according to one of their engineers the Borla exhaust for the 996 GT3 will fit a 996 Carrera but it will not "Run Right" since the system is to "large". To me it sounded ridiculous but they may be correct. The exahust costs $883 dollars and comes with quad stainless steel tips that i really like.

http://www.borla.com/products/por_gt...t__140252.html

Can anyone confirm if this would be a plug and play instalation on a 3.4L 996 Carrera and if there would be any issues?

Thanks!

Well. The size of the muffler would only reduce engine noise. What other effects could it have? Theres threads of people installing the 997 Borla exhaust with some modification onto a 996.

If open 'test pipes' don't make the car run bad... a slightly too large pre-made muffler aint gonna do jack.

Little to no HP increases from adding an exhaust system. If HP is your primary consideration do a HP/$ comparison and see which is better...just be aware that the HP numbers are "claims" by the vendor.

I've modded multiple cars for more HP and always seem to blow something on them (turbos on 911, engine on e55). More HP = more heat. How does the M96 and its inherent weaknesses hold up under the added stress of increased HP modifications?

I have a Fister setup and I LOVE it! I've had it for over a year now. I bought a muffler delete setup that I haven't installed yet. Good luck...

Agreed, I doubt you'd get any serious bump in horsepower from a CAI and exhaust. Wouldn't be surprised if you lost horsepower.

Also note that Borla quality has gone down hill lately. I've used nothing but Borla on my vehicles and the last one had leaks in the welds and when I called, they said, bring it to a shop to have it spot welded and we'll send you a maximum of $XX to cover the cost. On a exhaust system that I dropped close to $1200 on, that was unacceptable to me.

other "tuners" had similar experiences. ...

OP, why not just pick up a set of muffler deletes for a fraction of the cost? You'll get that incredible flat 6 sound, as well as putting the *** of your 996 on a ~40lb diet...

Exactly. If you like the look and sound, go for it. But don't expect any HP gain.

Does anyone know if the a 996 gt3 exhaust will fit a 996 carrera? The speedtech one does seam to use the same mufflers for both cars for example.

In the images for their instalation procedure it looks like it would fit a 996 carrera as well.
