Convertible top adjustment
Hello,
I am new to the forum and immediately have a question. My 1999 Porsche 911 was involved in an accident and besides other damages there is a problem with convertible top alignment. The tong that latches the top by the frond window is about 1/2" to the right and is preventing the top to close and latch. So far I didn't find any way to adjust the top so it would rotate a little to the left and allow the latching tong to be centered. Is there any mysterious method for the adjustment ? The car is in a body shop right now and is being checked for the body straightens but they can not find any major problem.
Please advise me if you have any experience with similar problem.
Thank you,
Waldemar from Michigan

If you are having insurance work done on the car, do everything you can to get this problem resolved before your case is closed. While you can _probably_ apply enough pressure in the opposite direction to bend things back the way they should be, you can just as easily break something really expensive. The convertible top is a delicate mechanism and not very tolerant of being twisted around...

I agree with the bent diagnosis. The top frame is delicate. If insurance is paying I would definitely demand a replacement top/frame. It could be almost impossible to bend it back to the original shape given that the frame is made of multiple segments.

Are both side tension wires attached to the bobbles either side of the rear window? Put your cab top into 'work mode' position (half up/down) and check both sides of working parts for 'mirror image' appearance of everything mechanical which moves the top.
