Default In search of a 3.4l case and pistons

Hi all,

I am finally getting around to having my 2000 C4 cab 3.4l motor rebuilt after a nasty intermix issue. (The head is cracked in two (!) places!) Upon teardown, it is apparent that I need a new case and pistons as one of the cylinders is scored and the associated piston is slightly damaged.

Please PM me if you have a case and pistons or know where one can be sourced. I would also consider a complete engine if it is in good condition. Incidentally, I will have at least one spare good head after the rebuild if anyone is interested.

Cheers,
TomF

I have considered it. If I could find a 3.6 crank, I would even consider the 3.4l to 3.8l kit.

Why do you believe you need the 3.6 crank?

My understanding is that the 3.8l nickies kit requires a 3.6l crank, but I may be incorrect. I am going to call LN tomorrow.

My understanding is the cylinders are bored to 99mm (3.6) but the stock 3.4 crank is reused. But yea, please check with LN.

That sounds correct for the 3.4-to-3.6 conversion, but the crank replacement question pertains to the 3.4-to-3.8 conversion. I believe that involves a boring to 101mm, but that the original crank nevertheless is still used. Was so in my case if I recall correctly.

The 101 bore will net 3.8L with the stock 3.4 (78mm) crank. The 99mm bore with the same crank is 3.6L.

I have tons of good used pistons, but not any blocks.

Approach with care!

Thanks Jake. I am exploring all my options at the moment.
