My 1999 C2 Cab. has the 3 stalk column switch. So no way to access OBC.
I just purchased a used 4 stalk column switch. The plan is to take the 4th stalk off the one I ordered and then attach it to my existing 3 stalk column. Many say they have done this and it works fine, and it eliminates the need to remove the airbag and steering wheel, etc. Still have to run the wiring to the cluster of course.
I attached a photo. This is how my OBC reads all the time,
"--- >mph". It does not indicate mph when I start traveling either. And of course, I have no way to control it, thus the 4th stalk install. All my research says that my computer is off, since it is not displaying the outside temp.
Questions:
Could my computer be on, but just set to the mph setting? I'm thinking maybe nothing is displayed if it is off, and as you can see mine is displaying --- >mph under the standard digital MPH readout.
If the computer is indeed off, should I do the stalk and wiring and then turn on the OBC at the dealer, or turn the OBC on then do the install? I'm leaning towards turning on OBC first so there is no issue with that before install.
"--- >mph" is one of the screens when OBC is enabled.....that is the screen where you set the "speed gong" (the gong goes off when you reach the set speed).
I have a feeling your car is already enabled, and is a matter of connecting to the correct pins in the dash to cycle thru them...
My understanding is that part of the screen is blank when OBC is not enabled

When my wife bought my 99 C2 Cab as a birthday present for me, the computer was still in "sport car delivery mode". Everything showed up normal but the inside cab AND door lights plus locking gas door was not working. For a measly $80 Porsche returned it to running mode and everything worked fine. I suggest that you check all functions of the OBC to see if everything is working as it should be. Try the gas door, it should be locked., ie:- unlock the car via the fob but don't open the doors. The door lights should come on. The cars should lock itself up after one minute and door lights go out. Then unlock via fob again and your indicators should flash one time on unlocking. Your gas door should now be unlocked. Open the door this time. The inside overhead lights and the door lights should work as the door is opened. Then try the overhead 3 slide switches for the inside light plus readers lights. Get out and lock the car via the fob. The indicators should flash two times but no horn should honk. If the horn honks one time then something is not locked or not in the correct position. Hand brake, center console door, rear engine lid. If things up to now are not working correctly then take it into the Porsche dealer and let them sort the OBC out for you. That's my advice. Then you can work from there.
That was my common sense guess, that is activated. Once parts arrive, I'll install and see what happens.
If there is anyone else that can confirm that the screen is blank if deactivated let me know, would be nice to know before hand.
thanks...
Yes, your OBC is enabled. You don't NEED to install the stalk to get it to work. You could also install a pushbutton, wire it to the instrument cluster, and control the computer that way.
Also, if you know anyone with a Durametric Pro or an enthusiast version they don't mind burning another VIN on, you can use it to enable/disable the OBC functionality.
I agree, I think your computer is already activated. I implemented the same mod as frisbee did, which allows control of the computer via a switch rather than the stalk. I chose to use only one switch, which does not provide the "gong" functionality - you need two switches to include the "gong".
I am doing the 4th stalk because I already have it, got it on ebay for $120 shipped. Like I mentioned, I will not have to remove the steering wheel because I am just attaching the OBC stalk from the one I ordered to my existing 3 stalk. If you do it this way it is as simple as doing the dash switch. The only extra steps are to remove the steering wheel upper and lower covers to expose the stalk column, which takes 3 minutes. And attached the 4th stalk, which just screws on.
I ordered the wiring harness from Dwight. Don't know when he will get that to me, so that is what is holding up the show.
I actually have the column covers off. Just going to remove cluster when the harness arrives. Probably done in an hour, if I get the connections right.
