Arrow 996 C4s Fault code 31.

Could someone help me with this, my airbag light has been on my 2002 C4s for some time now. I purchased a durametric lead so i could carry out some diagnostics. the fault code that comes up is code 31 ignition circuit, passenger. I've done some research on the forum and most of the posts say its the drivers seat belt buckle. I've purchased a new buckle from Porsche and fitted it. Cleared the code and it came back up, could someone help as in what to do next.

My research suggests the fault does *not* lie with the seat belt connector but elsewhere:

Fault codes 14, 15, 30, 31, 41 -- Ignition circuit, passenger's side airbag Possible cause of fault - Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in the wiring between the passenger side airbag unit and the airbag triggering unit - Passenger's side airbag faulty - Triggering unit for airbag faulty

Thank you for the fast reply, would you have a wiring or schematic diagram of the airbag circuit please.

Sorry but I have no wiring diagram for the 996's air bag system (or any system).

However, these exist -- for instance in my 64lbs of Boxster factory manuals at least one large 3 ring binder is full of wiring diagrams/schematics -- so you might want to create a new thread with a post requesting these for your car.

I agree with Macster. Fault code 31 references the side airbag, not the seat belt.

I would maybe start by disconnecting the battery for at least 15 minutes, then unplug the passenger's side (door) airbag and clean both connectors with electrical contact cleaner. Also inspect the wiring for pinch/chafe as per the manual.
