Default Recaro Profi Installation

To all my 996 playas:

Just picked up a set of Recaro Profi seats (super stoked, can't wait for them to arrive) and I have some (aka pretty much no) idea how to bolt these to the car. What is everyone else using out there? What are my options, I've heard of Brey-Krause, BBI has a kit, Planted, use Recaro mounts, build one with PVC, with 2x4 wood? I'm lost...

Any guidance is appreciated!

You have a few options.

Option 1, use a Recaro seat mounting kit. They used to have a full install kit for various Porsche models that included all the necessary hardware.

Option 2, use Brey Krause hardware.

You'd need a set of Recaro sliders, and:

BR9040 seat track adapters: http://www.ogracing.com/brey-krause-...96-997-986-987

BR9067 side mounts: http://www.ogracing.com/brey-krause-...pro-racer-seat

BR9005: http://www.ogracing.com/brey-krause-...at-belt-anchor
(this will also give you a place to mount your receiver for the 3pt belt if you will want use of your 3pt seat belt for street use.

Option 3: If you want to use Porsche factory manual sliders, then you will want these side mounts which are designed to work with factory Porsche manual sliders: drivers side, http://www.ogracing.com/brey-krause-...fi-spgxl-seats

Passenger side: http://www.ogracing.com/brey-krause-...ofi-spgxl-seat

These side mounts have a receptacle for attaching the receiver for your 3pt seat belts.

We stock all the Brey Krause hardware and will be happy to assist you.

Kind regards,

Appreciate the assistance Mark!

Option 3 for me would be out of the question since the oem seats I have right now are power seats, unless somehow it could work.

But with Option 1 and 2, are there any noticeable differences between the two (quality, rigidity, adjustments, height, etc.)?

Thanks man1

I have experience with Option 2 in conjunction with the Recaro slider and recaro side mounts. This puts the seat a little lower (maybe .5 to 1 inch lower) than if you mounted it to the OEM sliders. But I believe the OEM sliders go back about an inch further. My seat is on the passenger side of my 986 boxster and it goes all the way back no problems. On a 996 you are not limited by the firewall, but I think it goes back plenty far enough. My seat is mounted using the BK R-9040 seat track adapter which is bolted to recaro sliders, bolted to recaro side mounts, with a sub bar sandwiched in the front, and the tunnel side seat belt mount sandwiched in the back (with a spacer on the other side)

Parts:
http://www.bkauto.com/R_9040_Seat_Tr...r_p/r-9040.htm
Tunnel side lap belt mount:
http://www.bkauto.com/R_9005_Harness...t_p/r-9005.htm
Sub bar (I've got this one but it works with the recaro sliders)
http://www.bkauto.com/R_9030_Sub_Str...t_p/r-9030.htm
Recaro slider and side mount (don't have part numbers)

This has been working well for me.

On my driver side I have the Recaro Profi XL floor mounted using:
http://www.bkauto.com/R_9075_Side_Mo...o_p/r-9075.htm
and
http://www.bkauto.com/R_9044_Seat_Fl...r_p/r-9044.htm

If you need max head and leg room like me, this is a good choice as well. These side mounts had the tunnel side seat belt receptacle as well.

I have been very happy with the BK stuff.

Good luck!

Steve:

Appreciate the input.

Correct me if I'm wrong, which I probably am, I thought only the adapters, sliders, and mounts were necessary, what's the purpose of a sub bar?

If I had a choice, I would stick with the Recaro Mounts just for the extra bling, thank you for giving me that option!

With the Recaro sliders, there are several options, there's "outside", "inside", "tab", and "no tab". If you don't mind, could you explain the differences? Pros/cons?

By the way, after the seats are installed, I will still be using the oem 3 pt seat belt. From your experience, will the seat belt light turn on? Or will it be okay? Will I need to bring the car into the dealer to have them fix the sensors?

Thanks man!

If you are not going to use a 5/6 point harness you don't need the sub bar.

They do look good, mine are black with the White RECARO lettering on the side The "downside" is that you have to figure some way to mount the tunnel side seat belt receptacle, usually by sandwiching it in between the the floor mount and the slider, which means you have to shim up the rest of the mounting points by the same amount. (There are adapters for that). One really neat thing about some of the BK side mounts is that they include this mount already. When room is tight, sometimes that 3 mm can make a difference.

I don't know what those mean unfortunately.

If you are using the OEM seat belt and seat belt receptacle, the seat belt light should not turn on. I don't think 9x6 cars have an airbag integrated into the seats so you should be all good with airbags as well. One key thing, when removing the seats, do not put the key in the ignition with a seat belt receptacle disconnected (typically when no seat is installed) or else the airbag light will come on and need to be reset by someone with a durametric or a dealer. if a shop is doing the install for you, they know this and have it covered already. Some folks like to disconnect the battery when removing/installing seats to prevent this issue.

I bought a 2nd set of seat belt receptacles from a dismantler so I could keep my original seats intact and not have to remove the seat belt receptacle and disconnect the wiring (easy to do, it is just disconnecting a harness, but I wanted to keep my original seats intact).

When I first got my seats, it was a dizzying array of choices and options, and how to mount the seats to the car was in the top confusing category Once you do it once all will be clear Once you add up the cost of the mounting and adapters it is a fair percentage of the price of the seats. I got most of my mounting hardware used from this forum and saved some $$$ along the way.

How tall are you? One solution (that gives up maybe 1/2" of headroom compared with mounting to Recaro sliders, but still would probably be a touch lower than the stock seats) is mounting to the OEM sliders using the BK 9755/9756 side mount adapters: (You have the regular Profi, not the XL?)

http://www.bkauto.com/R_9755_Side_Mo...o_p/r-9755.htm

These include the tunnel side seat belt receptacle, so this install would be pretty simple.

You can get a used set of the OEM sliders (and an extra set of seat belt receptacles) from a dismantler and save some $$$ on those parts.

Where are you located?

The 9755 used in conjunction with some factory non-power sliders would also be a good option. Forgot to put this in my previous post. You could potentially find some used factory sliders from a dismantler but they may be expensive since racers tend to grab them up. The 9755 also have the attachment point for the 3pt seat belt receptacle built in.

Steve:

I appreciate all the assistance man! This process is making me wish I had bought gt3 seats with the mounts already attached to them, but regardless thanks for all the tips and ideas! I'll definitely incorporate them when the time comes.

Buying separate seat belts are a great idea! Didn't think of that...and I'm very dizzy indeed...

At the end of the day, if its more convenient to use the BK mounts instead of the flashy recaro mounts, I'm just going to buy a huge "Recaro" decal and slap that right on to the BK ones HAHAHA

Steve:

I'm no giant, just 5'9" on a good day. Doubt I could utilize the 1/2" of headroom. So the OEM sliders you're referring, will my current OEM power seat sliders work, or must they be manual?

I've got the regular Profi and I'm located in the East Bay Area!

like the suggestions above
seat track adapter bolts to floor...slider goes on top then the side mounts....which attach to your seats.
I skipped the slider and have the side mounts attached straight to the track adapter.
No one else drives the car and I don't need adjustments
Seat belt attaches to the side mounts
skipping the slider makes the seats sit as low as possible

My favorite dismantler is Woody's Parts LLC in Bastrop, Texas. He does Boxsters but there is a lot of overlap with 996, including the seat belt receptacles and sliders (he is where I got my seat belt receptacles from). If you have Facebook he has a page there:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Woody...66155110110548

I would not want to take the sliders off of my existing seats, it is a great hassle. Especially the power ones. Manual sliders would be much easier in my opinion.

I'll check them out! Thanks for the recommendation!

Is it difficult to remove the seat belt receptacles?

Thanks buddy!
