Thought I would introduce myself to the 996 forum. I've been part of Rennlist for a while now but resided on the 928 side...
I've always wished to add a 911 to the collection and after noticing for quite some time now that prices keep rising (especially as we know on air cooled versions.) a 993 would have been great but high dollars. Preferably an SC but I had a hard time paying double what I could have got a decent one for 2 to 2.5 years ago.
Sio while doing my usual every two week market feedback on a AM vantage ('07-'08) I ran across Arctic Silver and black 2002 996.2 with 6800 Miles. Still smells new inside. No issues with the exception of an original IMS bearing and P-Zeros
I know the local dealer and spent two days going over it and a 1977 S with an '84 3.2 replacing the 2.7. The '77 was 70's lime green with black leathe r& tartan trim. Cutting this short it had 80k plus invested in it and 225 miles on the reset odo. The price was 56k vs 33K.
So value on the '77 was 40k. the '02 going by insurance and bank value at the time for it's condition was 31k.
Still a tough decision (but not so bad considering a 16k difference with the '77.
So how did I even consider a 996. I'll admit I wasn't a fan at first. However my good friend finally completed his goal of buying a 911 and settled on a 2002 996 C4S and he let me take it for a spin. I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed it. Despite the "cobra head" center stack and other slightly off things in the interior.
The car I ended up with again has a black interior (camouflaging the center stack more effectively IMHO )and with the special order painted console, aluminum shifter/handbrake option and white gauges is not a bad place to spend time. I'll be ordering my Porsche Authenticity certificate this winter since all the options including the 18" wheels were ordered and OE.
THe updates for the 2002 MY (headlights, motor, interior upgrades) and the near flawless condition of the car sealed the deal.
So the 996 has joined a low milage 1988 928 S4 which turned 32k this year.
Oh and before the questions come in...I replaced the IMS with the LN final Solution. Of course the bearing was PERFECT but hey "piece of mind". The RMS was replaced as it was leaking very slightly.
Just installed the Euro smoked/clear front TS lenses which compliments the Arctic Silver very well.

Congratulations on your purchase! Looks to be in great condition. That is some seriously low miles on your 928. Enjoy!
Thank You! I purchased the 928 with 24.5k in 2012. Love the car and wanted one as a kid. (isn't that always the case? A 911 model sat right next to my 928 model...lol)
I've restored two cars and "never" again. I found it's better (especially due to my career) to buy as clean as possible even if it's a "few dollars more".
Yes, the 911 is in excellent condition. From motor to under the belly pans it appears as brand new car.
Enjoy your brand new 911, mine was a low mile garage queen as well, I guess you changed all fluids, srpentine belt and spark plugs with the aftermarket bearing.
~$25 a lens for genuine Hella units... looks sooo much better than the Orange lens, buy from ebay, pelican or other sources.
Thank you for the heads up but take a look at the top image again... Already completed! Actually I just ordered silver 194 since I never liked the :yellow dot."

Sent from my iPhone using Rennlist
All fluids where changed prior to puchasing (and indeed three times during it's inactuvity,,,This includes brake fluid)
Receipts show spark plugs were attended to as well. The belt however looked brand new when we had the car on the lift as it was inspected as well. No oxidation, fresh appearing scripture on the belt no cracks.
The bearing is the LN "Final Solution" (plane bearing) as opposed to the LN "Retrofit".
Over time apparently due to inactivity the car has gone through 3 fuel pumps and ditto on the battery (still a genuine unit installed) so each time when it came out from under its blanket in the past a service was completed on it.
Funny, it seems so eager to get out and have fun now, I seemed to note this on the last two fall drives recently....
Always nice to see another Porsche enthusiast, beautiful example. Congrats on your new low mileage 996. Hope you have the same reliability with your 'other' water pumper as many of us do with ours. Don't believe everything you read on this forum.

Thank You and I will!
Don't worry I won't believe everything I read, Never do as each vehicle I find is different in it's performance and reliability.
That said, the 928 has been great reliability wise and I so far the 996 has as well.
New tyres this winter to replace the OW P Zero's and we're good!
