Me - 4000 miles per year would be what I would be looking at.

KK, not sure why I'm even posting...I typically ignore your negitiveness towards the 996. But what is horrid about DD'ing a 996?
Also a second car, "having a hard time putting miles on it"? Hell a road trip across state (Michigan in my example) 3 or 4 times a year and every Sat or Sun or both of driving, I'd be at at least 8k miles, in just the nice months.

One thing that appealed to me about 911's is that unlike most exotics these are meant to be driven. One episode of "What's my Car Worth?" featured a Ferrari 308 or 328 that was absolutely mint yet they tore it apart for halving such "high" mileage. It had 50k miles. A 30 years old Ferrari with 50k is high mileage? What's the frigging point of owning a car if you don't drive it?

My experience on german cars in general is I'd rather see 15K a year than 5,
They don't like sitting and having seals and bearings dry out.
Nothing leaks like a low mileage bug..
Engine/Windows/brakes.. ick..

My 2cents
Porsche AG says average mileage/year for 90% of owners is between 6K and 9K, hence, most owners get two oil/filter changes per year, or about 5K miles per oil/filter change. Regional differences are significant...with cars in the Northeast and upper Midwest averaging on the low side.

My 99 C2 is going to hit 100k by the end of the year, but it's 20 years old so that comes to 5k a year which could be considered low mileage...but 100k on most cars would be considered not low mileage, so interesting situation.

Mileage is definitive in lifecycle, but maintenance is a requirement also. I'm on the yearly changes on a lot of things, Oil usually sees 1500-3000 mil year. I need to replace 70% front tread Conti's in spring, getting hard.
I've been using the Targa as my daily driver for past couple of weeks, It's been awesome, and wish I had driven it more this year.
I've got 38.5k miles on it now as a 2003. I plan on retiring in next few years and looking forward to putting some miles on it.
I've got some photo trip adventures planned. I can't wait, mainly for the retirement
I sold a 2000 MB SL500 w 29K miles on it to a golfing buddy to buy the 996.
Low mileage clean examples of a lot of automobiles retain value longer.
It's a call on mileage, 50-75K 15-17 yo Toyotas are few and far between.
Porsches and other higher end marques, more lower mileage examples out there. U have to be patient and be ready to jump when it comes by.
Look at the whole car, mileage, maintenance, bodywork and ownership records/attitude. I got lucky and found a gem. good luck.
