C4 front shock noise
Hi all. Am having a bit of trouble with the front struts on my car. It would appear the piston portion is seizing/graunching actually making a cracking kind of noise as it turns, to the extent that it undoes the nut on the top!!
I had the top mounts replaced over a year ago and am hoping they were fitted correctly.
Anyone heard of this before?
TIA

I recently had the same issue with the strut bearings on my 1999 C4. PO had a set of H&R Street springs installed, and it seems to have aggravated the issue. However, in addition to the bearing noise, when I turn almost to lock in either direction there is a *pop* that continued even after the bearings were replaced.
My indy put it up on the lift and we noticed that when the front wheels are turned the angle that the spring interacts with the top perch increases until it gets to the point where it actually pops. I've been digging through the archives here and I haven't seen anyone else using the H&R Street springs with that complaint.
I'm planning on replacing the H&R springs with a full coil over set to try and eliminate the strut bearings altogether, but I was curious if anyone running H&R springs had noticed increased wear of their strut bearings.
