Looks awesome, but why?? In 5 years when 991 values have depreciated, you'll just have an older 996 that looks like a 991 and you won't get your money back out of it. Beautiful, but not very logical.

Now, if they'd convert a 996 to a 356, that might be interesting. It might end up on a 1:0.5 scale, but it would at least be unique.

Why not make it into a 906? Now that would be cool! Although you would probably be better starting from scratch. My all time favorite P-car is the 906. There was one for sale at Scooter Patrick's in the late 60's. My dad & I looked at it. It was $6K and was OK for the street. My dad said it didn't make sense to pay that much for a car that had no electric windows so he bought a T-bird. We also looked at a Shelby 289 Cobra, which he liked but still didn't have electric windows and air-conditioning.

Looks like a quality job, but I'm definitely in the "why?" camp here. They probably spent about or more than the value of the car on all that work and the result is just a lower value on the car. For what they put into it for the car, parts, and labor they could have just gotten a 997 if they dislike the 996 look so much.

The why can't be explained. You either get it or you don't. Kind of like paying for a raby engine.

You get something of measurable value out of a Raby motor though. Other than changing the look, this adds nothing and actually makes it a less desirable car.

All a raby engine does is get you to spend invest at least $25000 in a car that will be worth less than the that when you are done.

You won't get your money back in resale, but being able to prove you have a Raby motor in the car will command a higher price.

Beyond money, though, you have a motor with all its known issues sorted out. If you go beyond the "basic" motor you also end up with more power and a better power curve.

Other than people's opinions about the headlights there is nothing wrong with the design/function of the 996 exterior that is fixed by slapping the 991 body on it. The owner will probably get a bunch of "cool" comments, but when it comes down to it almost no one that wants a 996 will be interested and no one that wants a 991 will be interested.

If, like most people that buy a Raby motor, they are planning to keep the car for life and this is what they like, more power to them. I get that part. It's just the lack of originality (e.g. it looks like every other 991 cab until you really start looking) that I don't get. For the money, get the newer car or make it unique to you.

I'm one of the people who don't get it. I wouldn't buy the 996/997/991 cabriolet. It's just strange to me.

ooooohh man, the 991 forum is gonna go crazy when they figure out there all driving 996's. And I'm pretty sure the cleaning at the Porsche will be canned after releasing that top secret 991 assembly line footage!!!

That was a pretty cool video but I was disappointed when the "911 Carrera" script on the rear deck was not even remotely close to being correct. The spacing is weird, it's not centered, it's just all wrong. C'mon man, take it to the finish line!
